1. Hi Jen, How are you? How are you feeling about life lately?

I'm good thank you, modelling work has been quiet for me over this second lockdown, but it's given me a chance to work on my new business!

2. How did you get into modelling? How old were you and it is something you've always wanted to do?

I was 17 when I got scouted at a music festival. I didn't ever think of modelling as a career but after Uni I moved to London to try it full-time for a year - and that was over 7 years ago!

3. What advice (if any) were you given when you first started out and what do you wish you knew when embarking on modelling and acting?

I'd like to have known that some test shoots aren't beneficial. My advice would be to only do a test shoot if you're given a mood board and you like the inspiration for the shoot, as well as the photographers retouching - sometimes retouching can ruin images by too much photoshop!

4. You have recently launched a business called Conscious Artists, tell me more?

Yes I have! Conscious Artists is an agency representing cruelty-free makeup artists. Over the years of modelling I noticed that the trend towards sustainability in fashion doesn't translate into makeup. I felt strongly that makeup artists who have made the conscious decision to use cruelty-free products, deserve a platform. So that's how the idea for Conscious Artists was born! This year has provided the opportunity for me to focus on it.

5. Why should we as consumers and part of the modelling industry be making efforts to change to more cruelty-free products?

Every time we buy something, we're endorsing that brand, and I think sometimes consumers don't know exactly what it is they're endorsing. One of my aims is to raise awareness about cruelty in the cosmetics industry, and encourage consumers to research before they buy.

6. What has been the hardest parts of setting up your own business and on the flipside what have you found the easiest/ joyful part?

The most difficult part was building a website, which was totally new to me! Luckily I had my brother to lend a helping hand. The best part has been the reaction to Conscious Artists from everyone that I have reached out to - from the artists themselves, to brands and producers!

7. What other skills or talent do you have that you like to do in your spare time?

At the moment all my spare time is taken up with making connections for Conscious Artists! My degree was in Graphic Design and Typography, so I'm also designing a logo for my friend's business.

8. What has this year, the year of lockdown taught about yourself and do you have any daily habits/practices that keep your mind healthy?

I was really lucky to spend the first lockdown in Cornwall with my family, and I enjoyed being outdoors so much. This year has shown me that slowing down and having time to relax is good for your health.

9. What are you most looking forward to in life right now and for 2021?

I'm looking forward to hopefully growing Conscious Artists and booking lots of exciting jobs!
